Introduction to Environments

Environments are used for access control, to control backup policy and to provide logical isolation. You can use separate Environments to isolate access to specific Apps or Databases to specific members of your organization.

Please note that Apps or Databases separated by Environments are logically isolated but will still share networks and underlying hosts, if the environments are on the same Stack. Use separate stacks for network isolation of your apps and databases.

You can create as many Environments as you want, for free.

Migrating Environments

It is possible to migrate environments from one Stack to another so long as both stacks are in the same Region. It is not possible to migrate environments from a stack in us-west-1 to a stack in us-west-2 for example. If you would like to migrate environments between stacks in the same region, please contact Aptible Support with details on the environment name and the stacks to and from which you want the environment migrated.
